Downing
I think Downing deserves a thread. Looked a good buy for 8m last night and in a new central role for most part. .

Should lay off taking free kicks though.

Re: Downing
We shouldn't have anybody take free kicks tbf.

I've always liked Downing and the new midfiled role did suit him last night.

Re: Downing
Played well I thought. I dont think he'll stay in the middle though, what with Song slotting in.

Had his best games for villa in centre midfield

Re: Downing
My MOTM. Most things we did going forward he was involved.

A lovely reverse pass for our 2nd goal. Long may this for continue!

I can't see RVZ, Jarvis or Nolan getting in the team at this rate.

Gave the ball away too many times again. Can't take a free kick again.

Re: Downing
On the plus side I thought his in swinging corners were a significant improvement on Noble's delivery...came into the box with a fla trajectory and pace.

Re: Downing
good to see most posters saying he had a good game....i only caught the last few mins of the game and saw him hit a shit free kick & deliver a cross that nearly saw us win the game.

Re: Downing
I think Downing was a key element to our success last night. Very good with the ball in the feet, great speed with the ball and always looking for an attacking pass.

Great match!

8m? I thought it was 5m.

Yeah, but a bit of exaggeration makes it easier to slag him off.

Re: Downing
Although buying him was looked upon as a disaster because of the circumstances around it he's actually in terms of quality bfs best buy

Been our best player so far this season by some distance for me.

Keep it up, Downing SON.

Re: Downing
I thought he was SHIT last year, but much more encouraging signs this season, and enjoyed his performance in a different role. It may actually suit him better.

Re: Downing
He was poor last season.

Looks to have settled in well... Even calling Nobes and Tomkins up for England.

Very encouraging so far... Long may it continue.

Re: Downing
I think on last nights showing it will be Downing and Song as possibly regular midfield selections with Noble having to make way.

Re: Downing
Easy to concentrate on the excellent performances of the new signings, Downing was top class - well played!

Re: Downing
Downing is a good player. I thought it last season and I think it now. I am one of the few who thought he was a good signing!

Did alot of good work last season without getting any reward for it. Good football brain, decent skill and pace, and can play in at least three positions.

I think he'll carry on being a mainstay of the team despite all the new signings.
